Tonight NBC is cleverly trying to improve ratings for reruns by rolling out a “newpeat” of The Office this week. What's a newpeat you ask? It is a previously aired episode that has be re-edited so producers can weave in unaired footage that introduces a new storyline into the older episodes. They are also trying to merge two newpeats into an hour-long story. Tonight they will air newpeats of Traveling Salesman and The Return and it will be interesting if the new footage adds to the overall The Office world or it creates confusion. I think this is a very ingenious idea to reuse film that they already have on hand and give us, the viewing public, something to look forward to when it is rerun season. I wonder if they use this model to give some added life to the series over the summer break? We'll see shortly if it works or not.
