HIMYM extends the show, again
For fans of
How I Met Your Mother, last night's episode made reference of two never before mentioned things: Barney's Video Resume and Ted's college alter-ego radio personality the mysterious Doctor X.

This actually might be the wave of the future given we are becoming a full-on YouTube generation. You can watch the full length video online. Note the awesome resolution video is 14 megs while the not as awesome resolution version is 21 megs but a smaller video in visual size.
I love that his site is sponsored by the mythical Golith National Bank. I wonder if their a business model here for personal video resumes hosted online with corporate sponsorship???
Doctor X
Ted is somewhat of a douche in college and his on-air personality is even worse.
"Fluent in six languages (seven if you count the language of sign), Dr. X divides his time between the United States and India, where he has attained the rank of Tantric master, known for both his discipline (8+ hours) and knowledge (74 positions)."
Yup he sounds like a douche.

HIMYM - Britney Unnecessary
It wasn't terrible but Briney's character could have been done by any actress and left very little to the overall story. Sarah Chalke, on the other hand, was great as Ted's "folliculaphobic" dermatologist with a 8 year old daughter. [Note not much of a stretch from her current day job as attending physician Elliot Reid on Scrubs but still sweet and funny as ever]. Hopefully she will return in the future but not as The Mother, of course - we still need a few more seasons before we get to her.

HIMYM - The Britney Era
On tonight's episode of
How I Met Your Mother, Britney Spears guest stars as a receptionist in a dermatologist's office [named Abby] who becomes "smitten" with our hero Ted. This could be a series killing mistake but given HIMYM's track record with guest stars I am expecting it be still be good, plus tonight will also feature another guest star in Sarah Chalke [of Scrubs fame] as Stella the actual dermatologist and eye of Ted's affection. In preparation for tonight's much-hyped episode, let's take a look back at the notable guest stars for the series:
Bob Saget as the voice of 2030 Ted. He is telling his daughter and son the story of how he met their mother, i.e. the premise of the entire show.
Megan Mullally as the voice of Barney's Mother. She is seen [from the waist down] in Barney's childhood flashbacks, including the one about his "father".
Bob Barker as Himself. This is the person Barney thinks is his father which lead to a great Price Is Right centric episode. Note Bob is not Barney's father [as far as we know].
Wayne Brady as James Stinson. Wayne as ultra-alpha-male Barney's gay,suit waring black brother is priceless casting.
Danica McKellar as Trudy. Ted's one night stand of The Wonder Years fame inspires Ted to act not think. She also returns with a
friend.
Busy Philipps as Rachel. Rachel is Trudy's Kappa Epsilon Gamma sorority sister and they suggest a threesome with Ted, which he can't go through with.
Mandy Moore as Amy. Amy is a tattooed party girl who Ted dates briefly and I for one think Mandy should get some real ink.
Enrique Iglesias as Gael. Gael is Robin's Argentina lover whom all the ladies swoon over - even without his mole.
John Cho as Jeff Coatsworth. Slick and tempting possible employer for our newest New York lawyer, Marshall.
Alessandra Ambrosio,
Selita Ebanks,
Miranda Kerr, Adriana
Lima,
Marisa Miller and especially
Heidi Klum as themselves. The Victoria's Secret models were all part of a dream night gone wrong for Braney "Suit Up" Stinson.
So far the casting folks over at HIMYM have been right on so for now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but it better be good because the show is currently on the bubble for next season and if this episode is a mess it could be on the outs for their current fan base starting tonight.

It's going to be Legend... wait for it...
Well maybe not. It was confirmed today that Britney Spears is going to guest star on the March 24th episode of
How I Met Your Mother. This is one of my favorite comedies on the air [well sort of on the air] right now and I have a bad feeling about this. Spears has been penned in as a receptionist in a dermatologist's office [named Abby] who becomes "smitten" with our hero Ted.
Here are, in no particular order, are several reasons this could be a problem and might be the episode we look back on and utter the phrase
Jumped The Shark:
- The Spears of Madonna/Christina lip-locking fame would have been a good addition, the mental-break-down-in-the-middle-of-such-a-nasty-divorce-that-it-drove-her-to-shave-her-head, not so much.
- Britney could have the mental capacity to be a receptionist but never in the medical field, so I'm not buying it.
- The writers better give her some very good dialog or she'll just look like a dumb blonde from the south, wait she is, oh never mind.
- Spears is 26, Josh Radner is 33. Ummm that doesn't quite fit the overall storyline.
- Blodne Britney not really his type. Brunette Britney maybe. Bald and crazy Britney no F'in way.

What would NPH do? Drop it like it's hot because of her low rating on the crazy to hotness scale.
Well let's hope that I am wrong and this is a great episode that launches HIMYM to it's rightful place in the top of the weekly TV charts and not into the abyss of canceled shows.

TV Land cable network has compiled a list of the
100 greatest catchphrases in TV history. The network will air a countdown special over five days starting
December 11. Some of the phrases that made the list are:

It's good to see
Barney Stinson is getting some props for his signature catch phrase especially since the show is only in its second season.

TV + Web = Experience
The networks are continually trying to find ways to give the viewers more entertainment than just the weekly show itself. This maybe due to the fact that
DVR is changing how we watch TV or perhaps they are just starting to realize the power of the internet and how they can spread their brand names beyond traditional marketing schemes.
Lost was really the first show to create websites, games and online clues to give their audience more than just the 22 episodes each year. Well the folks over at
CBS are joining in the fun for the show
How I Met Your Mother. In the first season, they started with
Barney's Blog, to extend the character beyond the show - and if I may say, Barney maybe one of the best characters on TV today and his blog is worth the trip. This year they have added a website
dedicated to Swarley [this is a nickname given to Barney in the
Crazy Eyes episode], created
MySpace pages for the show as well as characters
Ted and
Marshal - which interestingly is linked to
The 88's MySpace page, a real band that appeared in the
Best Prom Ever episode, and now a new MySpace page for Robin
... wait for it ... Sparkles.
[Note maybe not only are all people connected by six people, but maybe we are also connected to TV characters that way as well, see my
August 3rd blog posting about connecting celebrities, The 88's are linked to Zach Braff.]
In Monday's episode Robin's big secret is that she was a one-hit wonder teen-pop idol in Canada in the early 90's [apparently the mid 80's didn’t arrive in Canada until then]. The climax of the show was the showing of her very Tiffany

CBS, keep up the good work - your viewers really enjoy the extra effort you’re putting into this show.
